Yellow Rose Kennels is owned and run by the Quarles family of Austin, TX. We have been training dogs all our life. Early on we had American Cocker Spaniels and Greyhounds, but more recently we have been focused on German Shorthaired Pointers. Initially we got involved with GSPs as pets and hiking companions, but once bitten by the GSP bug we quickly realized that the GSP’s versatile nature made them excellent Obedience, Agility, Flyball, Conformation, and Hunting dogs. We compete in all of the Performance venues and in Conformation with our GSPs with a focus first and foremost on fun.
Our GSPs are members of our family and when we breed our puppies also become members of the family. We believe that puppy development begins with the breeding and continues until the puppy goes to his new home. As a result, our puppies are whelped in the house and begin receiving lots of love and attention from the moment they are born. Before going home our puppies are evaluated for show quality as well as aptitude for obedience, agility and hunting. We feel very strongly that the best home for a dog is when it is allowed to live in the house with its owner and we will not sell a puppy to anyone who plans to confine it exclusively to a kennel run or backyard.
GSPs are great family dogs, but have strong personalities. The Shorthair is an energetic dog needing lots of exercise to avoid boredom and frustration. Their energetic nature can sometimes be too rambunctious for small children, and the Shorthair’s hunting instincts can at times make them small animal sharp. For these reasons we highly recommend obedience training for the new owner and his new puppy.
All of our puppies are sold with a buyer/seller contract. Our contract guarantees that if any of our dogs develops a debilitating hereditary disease, it will be replaced with a puppy from a future litter. It further guarantees that puppies sold as show prospects will be free of disqualifying faults in the breed ring. Our litters are graded for structure at seven weeks and priced accordingly. The new owners who wish to have puppies that we classify as “show/field trial” puppies always get first pick. We do not make any guarantees that a puppy classified as a “show or field trial” prospect will finish it’s AKC Championship, however we do consider it to be a breeding quality animal.
All of our puppies sold as “hunting/companion/pets” are considered unsuitable for breeding and sold on an AKC Limited Registration.
Limited Registration dogs are ineligible to compete in AKC conformation events, however they may participate in all performance events, including hunting tests, field trials, obedience and rally trials, agility trials, etc. No offspring from an animal with a Limited Registration may be registered by AKC. If it is later determined by us that the animal has turned out to be a breeding quality animal we have the option of removing the Limited Registration. We strongly recommend, however, that all animals sold on a Limited Registration be spayed or neutered by a qualified veterinarian at an appropriate time.
At the time of purchase, each new owner is given the shot and deworming record of his puppy. All of our puppies are sold with a five day health guarantee, during which time we ask that the new owner have his pup examined by his own veterinarian and set up a schedule for future visits. If the buyer decides to return the pup for any reason during this five day period, the entire purchase price will be refunded.
We are members of the German Shorthaired Club of America and the German Shorthaired Club of San Antonio.
